The Rusty Cohen Legacy Scholarship Fund was created to honor Rusty Cohen, leader of Magid Glove & Safety, who passed away in 2020. The Fund aims to address the shortage of new safety professionals and support young adults looking to complete college.
Rusty was generous, smart, and funny. He listened carefully, remembered details about everyone's lives, and tried to make the world a little warmer each day. Rusty spent nearly 50 years helping companies keep their workers safe. He also worked hard to support young people who wanted to graduate from college.
The Rusty Cohen Legacy Scholarship will ensure young leaders from Chicagoland who are curious about different careers, such as those in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), have the support and financial resources to pursue their dreams of going to and graduating from college. It will also raise awareness regarding EHS careers, a field which is currently experiencing a shortage of qualified safety professionals. The award provides four years of financial support, including a one-time $1000 stipend for recipients who study abroad, and access to a summer internship after the recipient's first year of college.
Eligible students must be seniors in high school and
current participants in the Chicago Scholars program. Eligible students must have a GPA of at least 3.0, a good attendance record, and demonstrate interest in the field of environmental health and safety or other business-related professions. The scholarship will support students focusing on engineering, human resources, finance, technology, marketing, communications, etc. and all students interested are welcome to apply.
