Hardworking.  Trailblazing.  Leadership.  These three values exemplify the accomplishments and contributions of Manuel and Pat Pulido Sanchez to the Chicago community.  The Manuel and Pat Pulido Sanchez Legacy Scholarship's purpose is to elevate and provide scholarships for college to economically disadvantaged first-generation Americans of Hispanic descent.  Manny and Pat believe that higher education is the most important requisite to a successful, positive contribution to our country.
Application Process
ELIGIBILITY and REQUIREMENTS
Current Chicago Scholar with the academic standing of a high school senior
  • Must have demonstrated a financial need
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have shown academic achievement (e.g. honorable mentions, awards, organizational membership, competition participation, etc.)
  • Must be seeking a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. four-year college or university on a full-time basis
  • Have demonstrated good character either through leadership potential (school, home and/or community activities); a concern for others (through contributions to volunteer projects and/or family needs); and/or work ethic (responsibility, initiative and skill-building through paid or unpaid work experiences)
  • Immigrants or children of immigrants, and undocumented students are eligible to apply

AWARD
The Manuel and Pat Pulido Sanchez Legacy Scholarship Program offers a renewable college scholarship of $5,000 awarded annually (with a maximum cumulative of up to $20,000) 


APPLICATION PROCESS

Step 1:  Complete the CS Scholarship Pre-Application by March 1, 2023.  The pre-application only needs to be completed once and can apply to multiple CS scholarships.

Step 2:  Complete this application by March 1, 2023 including:
  • Two (2) written essays, responding to two topics from the list provided.  Essays must 500 words or fewer.  Respond to each separately.  

SELECTION

Students selected for the scholarship will be notified via email.  Recipients will be notified of acceptance by April 30th, 2023.  Students may be expected to attend a scholarship reception to celebrate this award in the summer of 2023.
Before you begin the application:

Please ensure that you have the necessary documents available and ready to upload.  You will NOT be able to save and resume your work on the application, so you will need to submit in one sitting.

Student Essays
Please submit two (2) written essays, responding to two topics of your choice from the list provided.  Essays must be 500 words or fewer.  Respond to each separately.  

The topic should be clearly written before each response.
  1. If applicable, describe how your family's immigration experience has inspired you to pursue higher education.
  2. Who do you want to be a role model for?  This can be a family member, someone you met during a volunteer service, at your place of worship, or other extracurricular activity, but not limited to these examples.
  3. Write a thank you letter to someone who has been influential to your success and achievements and supporting you to apply to college.
  4. What was the most courageous feat you've accomplished?  What were the risks involved?  Can you share any lessons learned?
  5. Looking forward in ten years, how are you spending your day?  Where do you live?  Who are you serving?  What difference are you making?
  6. How do you envision your college graduation and future success impacting your family?  What difference will it make?  What trend do you hope to set?
